geographical location
Uganda is located in the heart of Sub-Sahara Africa. We operate within the East African Standard Time Zone that is 3 hours ahead of GMT.
Uganda is bordered by Sudan in the North, Kenya in the East, Rwanda in Southwest, the republic of Tanzania in the South and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the West. You can therefore plan your tip concurrently within the region.
land and water distribution
Uganda has a landmass of 241,000 Square kilometers, 18% of which is covered by fresh water bodies. Lying astride the equator, Uganda has some of the best features of Africa, including Lake Victoria the second largest freshwater lake in the world, the source of the Nile (the second longest river in the world).
The physical land form
While traveling and touring in Uganda, you will be able to appreciate the country’s peerless geography. Uganda lies on the elevated basin which rises between the eastern and western branches of the Great Rift Valley
The most mountainous part of Uganda is Kigezi region in the southwest. North of Kigezi on the Congolese border is the Rwenzori Mountains.
Margherita Peak (5,109m) the highest point on the Rwenzori’s is exceeded in altitude on the African continent only by Mount Kenya and Mount Kilimanjaro.
Visa requirement to enter uganda
Passports: You need a valid passport that is not expiring at least 6 months from the date of your entry to the country.
Sufficient Fund: No amount is specified by the immigrations but having credit Card and return ticket are enough evidence.
Where to get visa to Uganda
You can get entry permit to Uganda in advance from any of the listed Uganda Embassies or High Commissions in your country. If not exist in your country, one will be granted to you on arrival at Entebbe Airport.
Money
The unit of currency is the Uganda shillings. The US dollar is the hard currency of the preference. It is recommended to exchange traveler’s cheques while in Kampala, capital city as it may not be possible to do so outside Kampala. Credit cards are usually accepted at major hotels in Kampala.
Language
In addition to the indigenous languages spoken in the country, English is the official language, widely spoken throughout the country. Second to that is the Swahili language which is also highly recognised by both public offices and the general public
When to visit Uganda
Uganda can be visited throughout the year. However, game drive, gorilla trekking and other forest walks are less demanding during the drier months.
What to wear
Dress codes are formal. Generally, temperatures during daytime are warm so bring lots of light clothing, supplemented by light sweaters for cool evenings and heavier clothing for mountains activities. When tracking gorillas, wear long sleeve light clothes to protect against insect bites and also wear solid shoes. Sunglasses and a hat give protection against sun, and water proof jackets may come in handy in the moist mountains.
What to bring
Carry along binoculars to get a closer view during game drive, forest walk and birding tour. Don’t forget the camera with an additional memory card or films. Toiletries and other essential are too and a rain gear for the raining seasons.
Communication
Uganda has an excellent cell phone network covering the entire country. Calls abroad can easily be made. Cell phones can be purchased or rented from major shops within Kampala.
